In a hard fought game, the Fighting Sioux took down the #1 Denver Pioneers by the score of 4-3 on Friday night at the Xcel Energy Center. The Sioux's Chris VandeVelde scored a power play goal eight minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead after one. Evan Trupp added two more goals in the third and Denver finally got on the board to make it 3-1 after two. Denver scored to make it 3-2 four minutes into the third. The Sioux scored a shorthanded goal about ten minutes later to go up 4-2. Denver scored their final goal with :37 left in the game.
North Dakota will play in tomorrow night's championship game against the Huskies at 7:07. Denver will take on the Badgers in the third place game at 2:07.
The Sioux have a decided advantage over the Huskies going into tomorrow nights game having won the previous meeting in a dominating 8-1 game at the National Hockey Center. Not to mention the fact the whining, crying, baby, cheap Sioux players are still moaning and groaning about the Chay Genoway incident back in NOVEMBER. (This is where my bias comes in folks! Sorry!) Marvin took out Blake Geoffrion in their series late in the season and the Badgers handled today's game with honor...something the Sioux are incapable of, see the two-handed swat at Garrett Roe's knee toward's the end of an 8-1 game! Sioux players and fans - GET OVER YOURSELF!!!! I expect nothing but cheap shots and runs at Aaron Marvin tomorrow. Watch out for a chippy game on the Sioux's end. Hopefully the Huskies can bury a few of those opportunities and take home the Broadmoor Trophy again!
